More and more online retailers offer their customers to make purchases by the 3D Secure system, an additional security feature for Internet payments.
Since October 2008, some banks and online merchants have adopted the 3D Secure system for payments on past Internet. This device, called Verified by Visa, Visa and SecureCode for MasterCard, aims to secure transactions, for authenticating credit card holders and thus prevent fraudulent use. How it works ?
The 3D Secure system allows the buyer to ask for additional information before confirming the payment. A person subtiliserait your card or recopierait information therefore may not make purchases at merchants using 3D Secure because it could know this additional information. How to proceed ?
Simply register with your online purchase on a merchant website displaying the logos Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode. Once you have filled out the order form with your credit card number, expiration date and security cryptogram (three digit number on the back of the card), you will be directed to your bank's website, who will ask for additional personal information to identify you as the cardholder.
